More than a million people have fallen to a recent scam going around in the USA. According to a data from Fraud Sentinel Network, a total loss of more than $4million has occurred due to this scam.
What is the scam? Fraudsters are impersonating sheriff’s deputies, scamming a large number of people working in the healthcare field. They are threatening doctors, nurses and others in Cuyahoga County, Ohio with arrest if they don’t pay a fine with gift cards.
Just recently, FTC announced it got back $9million for people defrauded in a student debt relief scam.
Reports brought to light that, the agency also filed a lawsuit and temporarily shut down a company offering riches for people who passively invest in its profitable online stores. By the time the company was shut down by court order, consumers had already invested and lost $22 million.
Several fraud alerts have been issued throughout 2023, related to entertainment event ticket sale scams, job opportunity scams and most recently, scams swirling around back-to-school shopping.
