Nvidia Invests $2 Billion in Marvell to Boost Custom AI Chip Integration

by admin

Nvidia is making a massive $2 billion bet on Marvell Technology to ensure its hardware stays at the center of the global AI boom. This strategic investment is designed to make it much easier for customers to use custom-designed AI chips alongside Nvidia’s own networking gear and central processors.

As the AI industry grows, many big tech companies are starting to build their own specialized processors rather than relying only on Nvidia’s expensive chips. By partnering with Marvell, Nvidia ensures that these custom chips can still plug directly into its ecosystem, keeping the company indispensable even as the market becomes more diverse.

The heart of this deal lies in a platform called NVLink Fusion, where both companies will combine their technical strengths. Marvell will contribute its expertise in semi-custom silicon and silicon photonics, a technology that uses light to move data at high speeds with very little heat.

Nvidia will provide the supporting infrastructure, including its latest central processing units and high-speed network interface cards. This collaboration addresses the biggest “bottlenecks” in modern data centers: the massive amount of power and bandwidth needed to run advanced AI models.

Industry analysts view this move as a way for Nvidia to reduce “friction” for its biggest clients, such as Alphabet and Meta, who are expected to spend over $630 billion on AI infrastructure this year. By opening up its ecosystem to work with other suppliers’ chips, Nvidia maintains its dominance while expanding the overall utility of the semiconductor sector.

The market has already shown strong approval of the deal, with Marvell shares jumping 7% and Nvidia rising 2.7% following the announcement. With Marvell forecasting its revenue to approach $15 billion by 2028, this partnership marks a major step in turning traditional data centers into high-efficiency AI factories.
