Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson, being the five time All-Star, is expecting to drag her team to a third consecutive WNBA championship this coming season.
However, the Aces’ search for a three peat is going to be under the radar due to the upcoming newbie class headlined by the Indiana Fever’s Caitlin Clark. The last lowa star had set all time records for the sake of scoring whilst her senior season and led her school to back to back national championship appearances.
Although she has accolodates on her resume, the remarks on Clark has turned into studies and media critiques as though what makes her famous instead of her game lifting up women’s basketball.
In an interview, Wilson admitted that there was a race touch to the sharpshooter’s popularity.
“”I think it’s a huge thing. I think a lot of people may say it’s not about Black and White, but to me, it is,” Wilson said. “It really is because you can be top-notch at what you are as a Black woman, but yet maybe that’s something that people don’t want to see.
“They don’t see it as marketable, so it doesn’t matter how hard I work. It doesn’t matter what we all do as Black women, we’re still going to be swept underneath the rug. That’s why it boils my blood when people say it’s not about race because it is,” she added.
Clark’s endorsement agreement with Nike after the WNBA Draft had raised some eyebrows about the reason why she got one without any professional experience and Wilson did not get one even though there are players like Breanna Stewart and Elena Della Donne getting a deal.
On Saturday, Nike announced that she was receiving a signature shoe. Wilson also accepted an endorsement deal with Gatorade. Wilson expressed her thoughts before the deals were confirmed.
