As we anticipate Oscar night, our excitement revolves around whether our beloved films will win. However, once the ceremony is over, what truly stays is the emotional resonance they leave, through the winning speeches. Did they elicit laughter, tears, or applause? Perhaps all of the above? Giving the perfect speech is a formidable task, and not everyone possesses that adeptness.
Spielberg’s Iconic Speech for Schindler’s List
During the Oscars when Schindler’s List won Best Picture in 1994, Steven Spielberg was also announced to have received the Best Director Oscar from Clint Eastwood. In a short speech, Spielberg asked teachers to teach kids about the Holocaust so it’s never forgotten. But the most touching moment came when his producing partner, Branko Lustig, narrated his own story. Lustig started by telling who he was and reading the number tattooed on his arm from when he was a child in Auschwitz. He talked about his time in the concentration camp, and his speech was almost as powerful as the movie itself.
Denzel Washington Remembers Sidney Poitier During his Best Actor Speech
In 2002, African-American actors had a memorable year when both Halle Berry and Denzel Washington won Best Actress and Best Actor at the Oscars. Furthermore, the Academy honored the very impressive Sidney Poitier with an honorary Oscar at the same event. When Denzel accepted his award, he paid tribute to Poitier in his speech, expressing his admiration and advising to follow in his footsteps. In a heartfelt moment, the two actors raised their Oscars to each other, symbolizing mutual respect and solidarity.
Olivia Colman’s Exciting Speech
Olivia couldn’t find the right words for being too shocked to have received The Favourite. After recovering, she finally found words to give the most beautiful speech ever.
