Macao is set to host a vibrant 10-day international food festival this June, showcasing culinary trends and promoting gastronomic development. The event, organised by the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO), will take place from June 14-23 at the Fisherman’s Wharf Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Culinary Extravaganza and Global Participation
The International Cities of Gastronomy Fest will feature around 100 food stalls and 60 culinary demonstrations led by world-renowned chefs. The festival aims to celebrate Macao’s rich culinary heritage and its status as a UNESCO-designated Creative City of Gastronomy, a title it earned in 2017 for its unique Macanese cuisine.
Visitors can expect a dynamic blend of food tastings, cooking demonstrations, and live performances over the course of the event. The festival will serve as a platform for both the public and international representatives from other Creative Cities of Gastronomy to explore and exchange culinary innovations and traditions. Attendees will have the chance to savour a variety of international dishes, experience cultural performances, and engage with culinary experts from around the world.
Highlight: The Fourth International Gastronomy Forum
A key highlight of the festival will be the fourth International Gastronomy Forum, scheduled for June 17. This forum will bring together food and beverage professionals from around the world to engage in an in-depth discussion on collaborative development within the gastronomy sector. The forum, first inaugurated in 2016, aims to foster cross-sector partnerships and innovative strategies in the culinary world. The previous forum was held in 2019, marking a significant return this year.
The MGTO has yet to announce the specific Creative Cities of Gastronomy that will be represented at the event. Currently, there are 65 such cities globally, including notable names like Parma in Italy, Phetchaburi in Thailand, Saint Petersburg in Russia, and Santa Maria da Feira in Portugal.
The International Cities of Gastronomy Fest promises to be a culinary spectacle, offering attendees a unique opportunity to immerse themselves in diverse food cultures and witness the latest trends in the global culinary scene. This event is expected to attract food enthusiasts, culinary professionals, and tourists, making it a significant occasion for Macao’s tourism and hospitality sectors.
