This Canadian actor, Kenneth Mitchell who has played irreplaceable roles in “Captain Marvel” and “Star Trek : Discovery” has died at the age of 49 due to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ASL).
Mitchell’s family has expressed their grief and announced his death in an Instagram post on Saturday, 24th February.
“With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Kenneth Alexander Mitchell, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, son and dear friend,” is what his loved ones expressed on his passing in the Instagram post.
Mitchell’s death due to the deadly disease ASL caused a significant shock to his fans as it leads to progressive degeneration of nerve cells in the spinal cord and the brain, and unfortunately, there is still no known cure for it.
The Star Trek actor had posted this on his Instagram post in August 2023, which quoted, “ It’s been a long 5 years. So much lost, so much gained. Incredibly hard times, mixed with so many more blessings. At the heart of it all are friends and family, caregivers and doctors coming to the aid of my family over and over and over again. Giving a plethora of support and love and care and encouragement. There is so much beauty in that. This disease is absolutely horrific… yet despite all the suffering, there is so much to be grateful for.”
To express grief of his demise, the official Star Trek franchise has also released a statement which honoured Mitchell on Sunday. They wrote that Mitchell’s portrayal of the Klingons Kol, Kol-Sha and Tenavik brought “a new perspective on Klingon culture to fans,” they added, “The entire Star Trek family sends their condolences to Mitchell’s family, friends, loved ones, and fans around the world.”
