The deal gives Mars access to Pairwise’s Fulcrum platform, which contains an extensive library of plant traits. With this access, Mars can speed up crop development and introduce targeted improvements. The goal is clear: to secure a steady and sustainable cocoa supply for the future.

CRISPR is a powerful gene-editing tool that enables fast and precise DNA changes. In agriculture, it allows scientists to enhance traits like drought tolerance and disease resistance. Beyond cocoa, Mars is also investing heavily in U.S. manufacturing. Last month, the company announced a $2 billion expansion plan through 2026. This includes a $240 million investment in a new Nature’s Bakery facility in Utah.
