Devon Sawa Revives Horror Icon in ‘Return of the Living Dead’ Sequel

by admin

Devon Sawa is set to bring new life to the Return of the Living Dead franchise. The veteran actor stars in Steve Wolsh’s horror-comedy, marking a thrilling continuation of the cult classic series. Set in Pennsylvania during Christmas 1985, the story unfolds eighteen months after the original film. Unlike a reboot, this new installment expands the beloved universe, promising fans fresh scares and nostalgia.

Sawa takes on the role of Isaac Horton, a central character in the upcoming film. Joining him are Casimere “Cash” Jollette as Delilah Horton and Kynlee Heiman as Sophia Horton. Alexander Ward, a veteran of horror and fantasy projects including American Horror Story and Annabelle Comes Home, plays the iconic Tarman. This cast brings a perfect balance of new energy and seasoned talent, ensuring a thrilling experience for audiences.

The film first made headlines in December 2024 when a teaser revealed Tarman dragging a Christmas tree through a snow-covered graveyard. A haunting version of “Silent Night” set the eerie tone, showcasing the unique holiday twist. This teaser immediately generated buzz among horror fans eager to see the franchise return.

Principal photography has begun, with Los Angeles scenes already completed. Filming will continue in Massachusetts this winter to take advantage of natural snow for practical effects. Recently, the production surprised fans at Los Angeles Comic Con, unveiling exclusive footage and a private teaser for attendees, heightening anticipation.

The Return of the Living Dead franchise began in 1985 with Dan O’Bannon’s original cult classic. Sequels followed, including Return of the Living Dead II (1988), Return of the Living Dead III (1993), and two 2005 installments, Necropolis and Rave to the Grave. This new film celebrates the 40th anniversary of the original, reinvigorating the series for a new generation.

Behind the scenes, Christopher W. Fox executive produces, continuing his father Tom Fox’s legacy with the franchise. Steve Wolsh not only directs but also writes and produces, with Rodger May, Peter M. Moglia, and Joseph Shelley joining the production team.

Sawa’s horror credentials, including Final Destination, Idle Hands, and Chucky, make him an ideal fit. With a chilling holiday setting, practical effects, and a talented cast, this new installment promises fans both nostalgia and fresh thrills.
