Danone Secures €1bn Acquisition of Huel to Expand Global Nutrition Reach

by admin

Danone officially enters the complete nutrition market by acquiring the British brand Huel today. This strategic move strengthens their functional nutrition portfolio through a one billion euro deal. It perfectly aligns with the Renew Danone strategy to expand health-focused food options globally. This partnership merges Huel’s digital strengths with Danone’s massive international distribution network.

Consequently, Danone now leads the rapidly growing nutritionally complete food sector across Europe. Huel creates plant-based powders, ready-to-drink shakes, and savory meals with essential vitamins. Initially, the brand started as a direct-to-consumer pioneer but now occupies 25,000 retail stores. High-profile backers like Idris Elba and Steven Bartlett previously supported this impressive business growth.

Antoine de Saint-Affrique, Danone’s CEO, expressed great excitement about this monumental brand integration. He believes Huel’s digital capabilities will unlock significant innovation opportunities for the entire group. Meanwhile, Huel’s 2024 accounts showed nearly £14 million in profit on huge revenues. Sales climbed even higher the following year, reaching over £250 million in total value.

Therefore, the company maintains strong profit margins while solving modern nutritional deficiencies for users. CEO James McMaster will continue leading Huel as an autonomous business unit within Danone. He aims to utilize Danone’s R&D resources to reach more health-conscious consumers worldwide. Currently, most people struggle to consume enough daily protein, fiber, or vital nutrients. Huel exists specifically to solve this problem through convenient and sustainable food products.

Additionally, the brand enjoys a fiercely loyal online community and a strong digital foundation. This acquisition provides the necessary infrastructure to scale into new, untapped international markets quickly. However, the transaction still requires standard regulatory approvals before the companies officially merge operations. Both leadership teams look forward to learning from each other during this transition period. This deal represents a major shift in the global functional food landscape today. Consumers can expect more accessible complete nutrition options on store shelves very soon.
