Tripadvisor’s 2025 Summer Travel Index Highlights Top Destinations and Experiences

Tripadvisor has released its 2025 Summer Travel Index, revealing this year’s hottest travel trends and destinations for US travellers. According to the report, international travel is gaining momentum with the Caribbean emerging as a top choice, while domestic travel sees a surge in nature-focused getaways.

Caribbean and Mexico Top International Travel List

Four out of the top ten trending international destinations for US travellers are in the Caribbean. Relaxation and rejuvenation remain key motivations, with 51 percent of travellers seeking a laid-back vibe for their summer trips. Punta Cana, Cap Cana, and Oranjestad have all gained popularity, indicating a growing preference for beach-centric getaways.

Cancun in Mexico continues to be the leading international destination, attracting visitors with its blend of cultural tours and water activities. Other popular spots include Paris, London, and Rome, where travellers are drawn to historic sites and guided tours. Notable experiences include a walking food tour in Paris and a day trip to Stonehenge and Windsor Castle from London.

The fastest-growing international destinations include Punta Sam in Mexico, Akumal, Noord in Aruba, and Goreme in Turkey. These spots are attracting visitors looking to explore less-crowded locales while still experiencing the charm of international travel.

Florida Dominates Domestic Travel; Nature Destinations Rise

Domestically, Florida takes the lead with four cities making it to the top ten, including Panama City Beach, Key West, and Clearwater. While bustling cities like Las Vegas and New York City continue to draw tourists, more remote areas like Big Sur, California, and Moran, Wyoming are gaining traction.

The report highlights a shift towards nature-focused travel, with 38 percent of respondents seeking outdoor experiences. The Fountains of Bellagio in Las Vegas and Myrtle Beach State Park in South Carolina are some of the most popular domestic attractions.

Additionally, Tripadvisor’s survey found that 83 percent of travellers prioritise spending on activities and experiences, with 57 percent planning to book activities ahead of their trips. Gen Z and millennials are particularly inclined to plan ahead, with 78 percent more likely to book activities in advance.

As travel continues to rebound, Tripadvisor emphasises the importance of blending cultural experiences with relaxation to create memorable summer trips.
