Teng’s arrival marked the beginning of a new chapter in Bhutan’s digital transformation strategy. He was accompanied by global influencers from key markets who were invited to experience a fully crypto-powered journey across the country. From high-end resorts to family-run guesthouses, traditional temples to artisan markets, the group relied exclusively on Binance Pay wallets to conduct all transactions. 1,000+ Merchants Join the Movement as Bhutan Redefines Travel Experience

Since the May 2025 announcement of the Binance-Bhutan collaboration, the number of crypto-enabled merchants in the country has grown tenfold. Today, over 1,000 retailers across Bhutan accept Binance Pay, reflecting an enthusiastic response from local businesses.

“This remarkable progress in such a short time reflects Bhutan’s openness to innovation and its people’s readiness to embrace new possibilities,” said Teng. “This is about more than transactions—it is about building an ecosystem where technology empowers people and strengthens connections.”

The partnership is part of Bhutan’s wider agenda to modernise its tourism model through technology while preserving its cultural heritage. It supports strategic goals such as financial inclusion, rural upliftment, and tourism diversification, particularly through the newly established Gelephu Mindfulness City Special Administrative Region, envisioned as a hub for digital innovation and sustainable development.
