Vienna has earned a prestigious spot on the global culinary map, with TasteAtlas ranking the Austrian capital 8th in its 2025 list of the world’s best food cities. The announcement, made on July 2nd, celebrates Vienna’s rich gastronomic heritage and its thriving food scene that blends tradition with innovation.

The TasteAtlas ranking, compiled from over 477,000 verified ratings of more than 15,000 regional dishes worldwide, highlights Vienna’s culinary strengths. Iconic dishes like the crisp, golden Wiener Schnitzel, sweet apple strudel, and hearty Zwiebelrostbraten stood out among thousands of contenders. Local favorites such as Gasthaus Grünauer, Woracziczky, and Figlmüller were praised for their authenticity and dedication to preserving the essence of Viennese cuisine.

A Culinary Victory for Austria

Vienna’s 8th-place finish places it ahead of thousands of cities and reaffirms Austria’s place on the international culinary stage. While Italian cities dominated the top rankings—with Naples, Milan, Bologna, and Florence taking the top four spots—Vienna was the highest-ranked German-speaking city, scoring an impressive average rating of 4.77.

TasteAtlas lauded Vienna not only for its classic dishes but also for the consistency and quality offered by its traditional restaurants. The city’s ability to maintain culinary authenticity while adapting to modern tastes played a key role in securing its place among the elite food destinations.

A Delicious Future Ahead

As global interest in regional cuisine continues to grow, Vienna’s inclusion in the TasteAtlas top ten could boost culinary tourism and spotlight Austrian gastronomy on the world stage. For both locals and visitors, the recognition is a testament to the timeless appeal of Viennese food and the passionate chefs who keep the city’s culinary traditions alive.

Whether it’s a perfectly prepared schnitzel or a slice of apple strudel in a cosy Beisl, Vienna proves that its food is not just tradition—it’s world-class.
