Huawei Ascend 910C AI Chip Set To Power China’s Tech Ambitions

Huawei’s new Ascend 910C AI chip is ready for mass shipments next month. The Ascend 910C AI chip will empower China’s tech ecosystem as Nvidia alternatives fade. Chinese AI firms need high-performance chips, especially after U.S. restrictions on Nvidia’s H20.

The Ascend 910C AI chip already reached select customers in China, sources confirmed. With more bans coming, China’s AI firms urgently seek reliable GPU alternatives. Washington tightened export rules, especially for Nvidia’s top AI chips like the B200 and H20.

Interestingly, the Ascend 910C AI chip combines two 910B processors for enhanced power. This design allows double computing capacity compared to Huawei’s older 910B model. Additionally, the chip boosts AI workload support through modern integration techniques.

In fact, the Ascend 910C AI chip rivals Nvidia’s H100 in performance. Chinese AI developers will benefit from increased computing power and larger memory size. Notably, the chip was tested by firms even before mass production started.

One source claimed Sophgo’s TSMC-made chips reached the 910B processors through unknown means. However, Huawei strongly denied using TSMC-manufactured chips in the Ascend 910C AI chip. Similarly, TSMC confirmed cutting Huawei ties back in September 2020.

The U.S. Commerce Department is now investigating the entire supply chain. Industry experts believe this chip will anchor China’s future AI development plans. As more export bans arise, Huawei’s influence in China’s AI space will only grow.
